Nanny and I are going out to eat for her birthday after school today. I love my Nanny with everything in me. Living with her for over 1 1/2 years just made everything even closer. Ever since I was younger she has always been the one to pull me up and dust me off. I remember when she would rock me to sleep as she'd hum or how when I'd go outside to made mud pies and I'd fall face forward into the mud she'd be the one showering me off as I would cry and cry. I use to love how she would talk to me about everything she did as a small child. Canning cans, picking the garden, and living in a one bedroom house with her three sisters and one brother.
What's even cooler is that her brother Johnny still owns that house, huge 5 foot wide heater and all. You can go to the 'basement' and see the canning jars they would use to store food and just how dark and difficult it would be to do anything in such a small space. Oh, and my nanny was a looker as a teen. She will tell you story after story about her boyfriends and how she had two at one time and Johnny told on her, haha. What I would really like to save up for is to get her a new stove, she's had the same one since the 60's and she loves to cook. If you like coconut, she's the woman to go to. You'll have diabetes in a second after eating one bite of her coconut cake. She's the main cooker for the holidays too, which is totally fine with me.
Ha, all that starch and good old fashion cooking, you can imagine the health my whole family is in. I learned from a small age that my family was about the most perverted and open family there could be. Walking in on my two aunts comparing bare butts in Nanny's kitchen at the age of 6, and the first time I had ever heard about a "pussy" came from just petting a cat and my aunt Lori asked me "are you petting your pussy"? So I grew up fast and pretty knowledgeable about the human body system.
Anyway, I really can't believe she's 72 and that I'm only 16. She's one of the most important people in my life, and I will surely be telling my kids about her. I love you nanny.
